Campus Square was built in 2002, so it is a relatively new complex on the northern edge of Lehigh’s campus. It is a great place for students and townspeople to gather for live outdoor music, a bite to eat, and the Bethlehem Farmers’ Market. The complex was designed by Sasaki Associates, a consulting firm nationally recognized for creating master facility plans for colleges and universities.
The architecture breaks the tradition of creating a visual wall between the campus and city and instead incorporates a plaza that opens out to South side Bethlehem along the New Street corridor.
The businesses in Campus Square are part of the Downtown Bethlehem Association and the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Campus Square, Lehigh’s Gateway to the South, houses:
The Bookstore is also home to The Barnes and Noble Cafe serves Starbucks Coffee, which is located in the lower level of the Lehigh University Bookstore. The Café has extended hours and a private entrance for access after Bookstore closing hours.
The Cup is an ice cream shop operated by The Bethlehem Dairy Store. There is a second store located on Linden Street in north/central Bethlehem. The Bethlehem Dairy Store’s homemade ice cream has been a favorite of area families for over 85 years.
Johnny’s Bagels and Deli serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has a very versatile menu featuring café and deli staples, as well as Middle Eastern inspired meals. There are other Johnny’s locations on Main Street in center city Bethlehem and on Rt 191 in North Bethlehem.
Mail at Campus Square is home to Lehigh University’s postal office. It handles all incoming and outgoing mail, as well as houses student mail boxes, but it is more than just a post office. Mail at Campus Square also offers a variety of services, such as shipping, copies, supplies, and more.
Campus Square is Lehigh’s state-of-the-art residential complex. The 250-bed complex features two, three, and four-bedroom apartments, each complete with a full kitchen and private bathroom, and fully furnished living room/dining room areas.
The Campus Square parking garage has 52 metered spaces for visitors. The rest of the garage is restricted to faculty, staff, and students who reside in the Campus Square Apartments.
